VOLUNTEER VIRTUS TRAINING

Kim Brown is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Catholic Community of Ascension and St. Augustine parish.  All potential and current parish volunteers should contact Kim in the parish office by calling 410-564-2396 or emailing kim@ccasta.org for more information on the requirements for all parish volunteers. 

VIRTUS (formerly called Shield the Vulnerable) is an online training that is mandatory for all those wishing to work in ministry with children and youth.  This process ensures the safety, protection, and care of minors and is an Archdiocesan requirement for anyone interacting with children in the Church, professionally or voluntarily. 

Volunteers who have substantial contact with children:

All volunteers who have substantial contact with children at a parish in the Archdiocese of Baltimore must complete the following requirements on our compliance management system, VIRTUS, before volunteering: 

Volunteers (Adult-18 years and older) 

• Register in VIRTUS
• Three (3) references to be provided, checked, and documented 
• Criminal History Screening 
• Training regarding child abuse and the protection of children 
• A Statement of Policy for the Protection of Children & Youth 
• Code of Conduct for Church Personnel 

Volunteers without substantial contact with children:

All volunteers (ministries) in the Archdiocese of Baltimore must complete the following requirements on our compliance management system, Shield the Vulnerable, before volunteering: 

• Register in VIRTUS
• A Statement of Policy for the Protection of Children & Youth 
• Code of conduct for the Church Personnel 

Minor Volunteers (14-17 years of age): 

• Archdiocesan Application for Volunteer Service signed by parent or guardian and youth
• Training regarding child abuse and the protection of children by viewing the Worthy of the Call video through the parish
• Three (3) references provided, checked, and documented
• A Statement of Policy for the Protection of Children & Youth 
• Code of Conduct for Church Personnel
